A Message from the Principal

The Great James Madison High School

Dear Madison Families, Students, Staff, Alumni, and Community,

It is with great excitement, humility, and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of The Great James Madison High School. It is truly an honor and a privilege to join a school with such a rich tradition of excellence, deep community pride, and a legacy of developing generations of Trojan leaders.

As I begin this journey, I want to express my sincere appreciation to Principal Russell and the distinguished principals who have previously served The Great James Madison High School. Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to students established a strong foundation of excellence and Trojan Pride that continues to inspire our school community. I am honored to build upon that legacy while working alongside our students, staff, families, alumni, and community partners to write Madison's next chapter.

During my first year, my priority is to listen, learn, and build relationships. I look forward to learning from our students, supporting our outstanding teachers and staff, partnering with our families, and engaging with our community to better understand Madison's strengths, opportunities, and aspirations. Together, we will create a shared vision that honors our history while preparing every scholar for an even brighter future.

Our work will be guided by collaboration, innovation, accountability, and an unwavering belief that every student can achieve greatness. We will cultivate a campus where every scholar feels safe, valued, respected, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. We will maintain high expectations for teaching and learning while ensuring every student has access to the resources, opportunities, and support needed to succeed in college, careers, athletics, military service, and life.

We are committed to fostering a culture of excellence rooted in integrity, collaboration, and Trojan Pride. By investing in our teachers and staff through meaningful professional learning and support, strengthening partnerships with families and the South Dallas community, and using data to guide continuous improvement, we will create an environment where every member of our school community can thrive.

Rooted in South Dallas

The Great James Madison High School is more than a school—it is the heart of South Dallas. Its proud history, outstanding traditions, award-winning programs, dedicated educators, talented scholars, supportive families, and loyal alumni make Madison a special place. I am honored to become part of this remarkable community and excited about what we will accomplish together.

Together We Rise

As your new principal, I invite you to join me on this journey. Your voice, partnership, and support are essential as we continue building a school where every Trojan is challenged, supported, and inspired to succeed.

Together, we will honor our legacy, embrace innovation, and create new opportunities for every student.

The legacy is strong.

The future is bright.

Together, we are building the next chapter of greatness at The Great James Madison High School.

With Trojan Pride,

Derek Stricklin
